St George’s choir (SATB) sings a wide range of repertoire to complement the themes of each Sunday service. It is a committed group of choristers ranging in age from late teenagers through to those with an auspicious number of decades of singing and living! This is one of the choir’s special characteristics: it is a group of singers of all ages - including professional musicians, experienced church choristers and enthusiastic parishioners - all brought together by a love singing and their commitment to keep our choral tradition alive and thriving. Our parish choir is cross-generational and one of those special places where families can keep a shared activity.
The choir also welcomes additional committed singers for special feasts such as the services in Holy Week, Easter, our patronal Evensong, Advent and Christmas. The choristers are also committed to sharing music of the season with the residents of a local MECWA home prior to Christmas.
While most choristers can ‘read’ music - and this is desirable - there is good practical support available for those who sing by ear. This support includes some attention to note-learning in rehearsal, a welcoming and supportive culture from other choristers, and access to varied learning sites for private use at home before rehearsals.
St George’s supports the development of its choristers through an annual workshop with a vocal specialist that complements the routine rehearsal process and its commitment to the ongoing expansion of its music library.
The choir practice routinely runs on Thursdays evenings from 7pm-8:30pm.
